In January 2015, Lindsay Craig will be teaching technology workshops with his East African partners to farmers, educators, engineers, artists, students, and dreamers.
Recently, as discussed on the Make Robots, Not War website, I spent four months teaching sensor-based technology in East Africa where the possibility of new technology has some people talking about “leapfrogging.” But others worry that the foundational concepts in previous iterations of technology get overlooked when people are pushing to integrate only the latest hardware. Some worry that the cutting-edge products are simply overhyped flavors of the week — gizmos best left to collect dust or melt in the hands of the early adopters with little continued support (kind of like bubble gum ice cream).
