Robotics Camp
Before heading to college, Kyra Williams is hosting “It’s a Girl Thing” robotics camp. The 18-year-old Goliad resident hopes to get more girls interested in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields. She took a chance when she signed up for a robotics class at Goliad High School but soon found she had a passion and talent for the field. “I just fell in love with it,” she said.
She was one of two girls in the class and advanced to a state robotics competition. Hosting the high school’s first robotics camp for middle school students will help her earn her Gold Award. A Girl Scout since she was 4 years old, Kyra hopes to demonstrate her leadership in this project and earn the highest achievement in Girl Scouts.
The boys robotics camp filled up quickly, she said, but there are still a few spots left for girls. “I really believe that if something as simple as playing with Legos and making them move can affect me the way that it has, that it can do the same for not only other girls, but boys as well,” Kyra said.
