The new addition to South Fayette High School in Pennsylvania allows for the use of modern learning technologies, incorporating some of its direction and design through a partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In addition to 24 classrooms, the 35,000-square-foot expansion includes an MIT-certified fabrication lab, two collaborative learning rooms, a television studio, a makerspace and five science labs.
The MIT-certified fabrication lab, or fab lab, is a new twist on an old idea. While the lab contains typical shop equipment, students also have access to work stations and tools equipped to support new kinds of production involving engineering design and fabrication.
