This year, Chile will host the largest digital fabrication event in the world. Great minds from all over the world will converge on the nation’s capital, Santiago de Chile, for FAB13 Latin America this July. The event’s theme, “fabricating society,” is a call to a world of new opportunities and a new way of doing things.

The main objective of the Latin American initiative is “Integration of the Region” through an inclusive effort to show the world the Latin American technological environment. For the Chilean stop, it seeks to impact as many people as possible. In this vain, the event will seek to expand the local Chilean network of FabLabs. To reach more remote areas, workshops will commence throughout the country, with “Off Labs” appearing in local markets.
This international coming together of minds brings talent from all over the globe to a forum where ideas can be exchanged to shape our future.
The world is undergoing a new process of change and transformation, and it is time to build something new. FAB13 Latin America will unite the political, business, academic, and professional worlds with society to see how to address both local and global issues to build a better economy and culture. The technologies developed in digital fabrication laboratories create tools to solve real problems. Whether in the public or private sector, the great challenge of innovation is not to stay fixed in ideas but to reach final products, thus improving the economy, environmental businesses, and the way of interacting with the community.
It is important to mention that the Latin American network has always stood out in the global meetings of digital fabrication, and as hub for culture and comparatively safe for other cities in the region, Santiago is the perfect venue to kick things off this year.
FAB13 brings about another opportunity to debate theory on how digital fabrication responds to social realities, and how best to fulfill those responses.
