Chico >> Idea Fabrication Lab is making this season’s holiday shopping merry and bright with hand-crafted gifts made by local artists. Holiday Maker Market will go noon-6 p.m. Saturday at the Idea Fab Labs, 603 Orange St.
The maker’s showcase is family-friendly and free to attend. IFL Arts will also be selling refreshments. The one-day market is a collaborative show from IFL creators and community artists, Lab Lead Carly Santa said. “It’s really fun to get together to do makers showcases and bring the community together to fill our gallery with different styles of work and get new people in here to see what we’re all about,” Santa said. Fab Labs’ call-to-artist in the community was met with a great response.
“We have more booths than we’ve had in the past,” she said. “At first we were nervous about how many we had and how we’d accommodate but we’re excited to revamp the space.”
The makerspace and art-tech gallery will transform into a buyer’s paradise. A vast variety of jewelry, clothes and artwork will be for sale. Shoppers can view comic books by Wesley Alexander, digital-embroidered mandala pieces by Brian Herrera and leather and laser cut jewelry by Strap + Stand, to name a few. Along with artful items, a lion’s mane mushroom-making kit by Kevin Hanley will be available for purchase.
“It’s one thing for us to throw a gallery show and bring the community in to celebrate that one person’s art and we come together as a community to celebrate that art,” Santa said, “but then to bring in the community together to show off their individual talents and the individual things they create and watch them put on a show with a bunch of other people doing the same thing — I feel like it kind of binds the community even further.” Read More…
