STUDENTS from seven schools in the Valley of Small Schools made impressive strides at a recent STEM robotics workshops.
In all, 21 workshops were run at local schools in five days. The workshops had the students shift from being digital users to digital creators and fostered the development of fundamental skills of innovation, curiosity and collaboration.
Michele Miller, chief executive officer and founder of RoboticsWPS, was impressed with the ability of local students.
“They matched it with the students from Sydney,” said Ms Miller
“I was pleased with the level of creativity shown by the local students, which I believe correlates highly to the amount of creative outside playtime kids in rural areas experience.
“They do not spend vast amounts of time immersed on a screen. Students up here go and play outside, which captivates and stimulates their curiosity and imagination.
“It is our calendar highlight to come and spend time in these wonderful community schools. My team and I just love it.”
After attending STEM robotics workshops in 2014, Goonengerry Public School principal Tracey Barnes, teacher Angela Maxwell and administration officer Mandi Gumbrell worked extensively with Valley of Small Schools communities to enable all students to take part. Read More …
